Dash Layout

We decided that we liked black anodized brushed aluminum instead of clear. This will allow us to create a nice contemporary professional look with engraved switch labels. The dash is not very high so doesn't leave a lot of options for gauge placement, particularly since we've chosen the relatively large 5" speedo and tach. Here's an overall look at the dash as well as a closeup of the switch layout.

The gauge package includes the following:

The round circles on the far left and right of the dash are 1" tweeters. We plan to mount 4" to 5" midrange/woofers in the doors.

Here's a detail look at some of the switches. The switch labels will be engraved and filled with red paint.

The switches labeled FRONT and REAR are used to control the cockpit adjustable sway bars - up for firm, down for soft. The five LEDs beside each switch indicates the current setting.

The Electromotive TEC-II allows two rev limits to be set. The lower rev limiter limiter will be controlled by the rev limit switch. This can be used for inexperienced drivers to provide a modicum of safety by limiting the full potential of the engine.

We plan to use a push button starter switch in addition to a hidden ignition lock.

The K-40 switch will control a built in K-40 radar detector - up for high sensitivity, down for low, middle for off. The two LEDs indicate a radar signal in front and behind the car.

We are also looking at a data acquisition system that will allow us to capture information about the cars behavior so that we can later analyze it to improve driver and car performance. One of the systems we are consider is from Corsa Instruments. This system offers a steering wheel mounted Vacuum Fluorescent display (shown) which can be programmed to warn when pressures or temperatures become critical, as well as provide assistance in optimizing shift points, etc.
