"Michel's Goby #1"

This -inch-long, almost transparent, fish is a Michels Goby (Pleurosicya micheli). Like most gobies, it is found resting on coral or sound. Here, it is resting on the common lobe coral (Porites lobata) at a depth of around 50 feet. The first description of the Michels Goby was not made until 1970.

This goby was photographed in about 20 feet of water off the south Kohala Coast near the Mauna Lani Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Photographed with a Nikon N90s in a Sea&Sea NX90 housing with two Ikelite 200 strobes. Nikon 60mm f2.8 macro lens. Fuji Provia 100F transparency film scanned with a Nikon LS-2000.
