Ngare Sero Lodge

August 18-20

The back patio offers views of a river with many birds and occasional monkeys in the trees.

Ngare Sero was the first lodge we stayed at in Africa. Of all the lodges we stayed at, this was probably my least favorite, but it was still quite nice.

All of our suites were located in a long building a couple minutes walk from the main reception building. This building had about eight suites, but it's possible the main reception building had additional rooms.

Each of our suites had four rooms. As you entered the suite, you came into a sitting room with a couple of chairs or a couch. Behind this room was a very small "office" which had a table and chair that was useful for writing a letter or using a laptop computer. Our bedroom had a reasonably comfortable king size bed and a couple more simple furnishings. The bathroom had plenty of space for two and a large bathtub/shower combination. Overall, the rooms were simple but clean, about what you'd expect from a budget motel in the US.

The main reception lodge had a nice dining room where our meals were served, and a lounge with an indoor area with chairs and couches, and an outdoor patio with comfortable padded furniture. When we returned to the lodge for the day, we sat out on the patio and watched the wildlife while we were served beverages of our choice.

The meals were fairly good, although not as memorable as some of the meals we had at other lodges. Also, since this was a very small lodge, we didn't have as much choice about what to eat as some of the other lodges.

Electricity was provided in the rooms, although they may have turned it off in the middle of the night.

For me, the best thing about this lodge was the excellent photo opportunities in and around it. Check my journal entry for August 19 to take a look at some.
