Serengeti Serena Lodge

August 25-27

Each guest building had three rooms, two one the ground floor and one above.

The Serena Lodge was the largest of the lodges we stayed at on our safari. There were at least 60 people staying there when we were there. It has a great location fairly close to excellent game viewing in the southern part of the Serengeti.

The rooms were fairly nice, although not particularly distinctive. They each had a small patio looking west with very pretty sunset views. These were my least favorite rooms because they didn't have great ventilation and it was relatively warm in the Serengeti. You couldn't leave the doors to the patio open because there were no screens and baboons would come into the rooms when you weren't there.

The rooms all had electricity for lights, charging batteries, etc. The lodge also had an excellent laundry service which provided rush service in just a couple hours.

The bar/lounge had a nice veranda, but the seats here were always taken by the time I got back from the game drives and had a shower. The inside bar was very pleasant, however.

The dining room featured a large buffet with many different selections. Although the food wasn't exceptional, it was easy to find something that everyone found to their liking.
The nicest feature about this lodge was the pool. It was in a very scenic setting and felt great after a hot game drive (the temperature in the Serengeti reached about 80 degrees in the early afternoon).
