Amsterdam and Travel to Africa

Tuesday - Thursday, August 15-17

Our flight was scheduled to depart Seattle at 2:00 on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, the plane had a minor problem - the toilet deodorizing fluid was leaking into the baggage compartment. So our flight was delayed three hours while we waited for the plane from Amsterdam to arrive and be cleaned and resupplied. It was fortunate that we had decided to stay in Amsterdam for a couple days because we would have missed our connection to Kilimanjaro.

Once we boarded, the flight was quite nice, but we were fairly tired when we arrived the next morning at our hotel - the Hotel De l' Europe. We all took a nap for a few hours before taking a walk around the city and finding a nice cafe for dinner.

Diana's sister and her family arrived the following morning on a flight from Boston, along with our daughter who had been in New England at camp. I decided to hang around the hotel and read a book while Diana and the kids went exploring. We got back together for a boat tour of the Amsterdam canals - recommended if you happen to be in Amsterdam.

We went back to the same open-air cafe for dinner, overlooking the canal near our hotel...pretty boring, huh? But the rest of the trip was much more adventurous.
